not a parent?

This is not a parenting blog.

Of course, there are a lot of parents who read Faith Passed Down, and they naturally apply the teachings and ideas here to their own children.

However, if you are not a parent, I want you to know that you are welcome here. In fact, you’re not just welcome… I am thrilled that you are here.

I am so encouraged to know that there are adult Christians who are excited to mentor young people… not just because those young people live in the same house, or call the adults “mom and dad,” but because the adults are passionate about sharing faith with young people.

Perhaps you’re…

– an aunt or uncle

– a teacher

– a Sunday school teacher or youth ministry volunteer

– a grandparent

– a volunteer with a non-profit ministry that works with children

someone whose friends have children

You might even be a parent of children, looking to help other children grow in their faith, like your kids’ friends, or children at your church or work.

Whatever your situation, at Faith Passed Down, I refer to you all as “adult mentors.

I want you to know that I try my best to make you feel welcome here. I try to write posts that will apply to an audience beyond just parents, and I try to think of examples and ideas that apply to adult mentors too.

If that doesn’t happen, could you please let me know? I’d love to know how I could help you feel more equipped and inspired to serve the young people in your life.

I was blessed with Christian parents who have been a tremendous influence on my faith life. But, nearly just as important in my own faith background was the influence of other adult mentors – particularly my Christian teachers and my parents’ friends.

I am so glad they took the time and energy to invest in my life, and I’m so glad that you’re taking the time and energy in the life of a young person in your life.

Thanks, and welcome!
